The Karachi Port handled 157,650 tonnes of cargo comprising 131,063 tonnes of import cargo and 26,587 tonnes of export cargo including 6,428 loaded and empty containers during the last 24 hours ending at 0700 hours on Thursday.
The total import cargo of 131,063 tonnes comprised of 38,550 tonnes of containerised cargo; 1,222 tonnes of general cargo; 58,041 tonnes of bulk cargo: 43,000 tonnes of coal; 5,211 tonnes of soyabean meal; 9,830 tonnes of rock phosphate and 33,250 tonnes of oil/liquid cargo.
The total export cargo of 26,587 tonnes comprised of 20,748 tonnes of containerised cargo; and 5,839 tonnes of rice.
As many as 6,428 containers comprising of 2,540 containers import and 3,888 containers export were handled during the last 24 hours on Thursday.
The breakup of imported containers shows 1,026 of 20's and 699 of 40's loaded while nil of 20's and 58 of 40's empty containers, whereas that of exported containers shows 556 of 20's and 301 of 40's loaded containers while 302 of 20's and 1,214 of 40's empty containers were handled during the business hours.
There were three ships namely CMA CGM Puget, Najdiah and BF Ayita carrying containers, oil tanker and general cargo respectively sailed out to sea during the reported period.
There were three vessels viz. RIO Cadiz, Crystal Sambu and BF Ayita carrying containers, chemical and general cargo respectively currently at the berths.
There were three ships namely Adrian Schulte, Northern Dependant and Gloves Comet carrying containers and vehicle respectively sailed out to sea on Thursday, while three ships namely MT Karachi, Corona and Crystal Sambu carrying oil tankers and chemical respectively are expected to sail on Friday.
There were five vessels viz. MSC Valencia, Oriental Nadeshiko, Bon Atlantico, Clovis Comet and Heilan Brother carrying containers, oil tanker, chemical, vehicle and steel respectively due to arrive on Thursday, while ten vessels viz. Kota Kamil, Wan Hai-501, Chastine Maersk, UAFL Zanzibar, Hyundai General, Fowairet, High Beam, Grand Race, U Noble and Ping An Song carrying containers, mogas, vehicle, coal and general cargo respectively are due to arrive on Friday.
