PTI, JI urge NAB, FBR chiefs to step down

22 Feb, 2017

Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) and Jamaat-e-Islami have asked the chairmen National Accountability Bureau (NAB) and Federal Board of Revenue (FBR) to resign after both the officials were grilled by the Supreme Court in Panamagate case.
"If both the officials have a little moral courage, they would have immediately resigned from their posts after being snubbed by the Supreme Court of Pakistan," leaders of PTI, JI and Awami Muslim League (AML) said outside the Supreme Court while talking to the media on Tuesday.
They also predicted that Panamagate case may conclude on Thursday and the decision would come against the prime minister. PTI leader Fawad Chaudhry said that the Supreme Court has reminded chiefs of FBR and NAB of their jobs. It has been proved that in the presence of the Prime Minister, free and transparent investigation is not possible as all the institutions are dancing to the tunes of Nawaz Sharif.
He said that PTI has 3 basic pleas: Nawaz Sharif, Ishaq Dar and Captain Safdar (retd) had hidden their assets and told lies, therefore, they should be disqualified under Article 62; Hudabiya Paper Mills Ltd case should be reopened; and reference should be filed against Hassan Nawaz, Hussain Nawaz and Maryam Safdar.
He said that Imran Khan's statements about institutions are going to prove correct. The Prime Minister and his children should be investigated if the country wants to move towards real democracy, he said. Arif Alvi of PTI said that Tuesday's proceeding was a great setback to Nawaz Sharif. Chief of Jamaat-e-Islami Sirajul Haq said that it is proved today that government institutions hold only the poor accountable and not the affluent persons. He said the way facilitators of terrorists are culprits, officials who facilitate corruption are also culprits and responsible for it. It is historic moment in the country and the decision would in public favour, he claimed.
President Awami Muslim League, Sheikh Rasheed demanded chairmen Federal Board of Revenue and National Accountability Bureau to tender their resignations after the Supreme Court grilled both of them for not probing the assets of the Premier's family.
Meanwhile, Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz (PML-N) leaders stated that it is unfair to state that institutions including NAB and FBR are dancing to the government's tunes. Imran Khan is levelling baseless allegations against Prime Minister Sharif and his family regarding Panama Leaks case.
Danial Aziz said that the name of Nawaz Sharif is not mentioned in Panama Papers but Imran Khan and his team is bent upon character assassination of the Prime Minister and his family. He said Imran Khan claims that his party is trying to eliminate corruption from the country but in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa the PTI-led government has blocked the process of accountability.
