Chairman National Database and Registration Authority (NADRA) Usman Mobin appeared before the Federal Investigation Agency (FIA) team on Tuesday probing the case of embezzlement in renting of building for the authority at exorbitant rent. Sources told that the FIA team questioned NADRA chairman for over 3 hours regarding gross violation of PEPRA Rules while renting a building for the authority. In the same case, the FIA has already arrested Director General (DG) NADRA Tahir Akarm on February 23 after his pre-arrest bail was rejected.
Akram was allegedly involved in causing a huge loss of Rs 31.24 million to the national kitty. The DG FIA allegedly allowed renting of a building for NADRA in a non-transparent manner. Interior Minister Chaudhry Nisar Ali Khan last year took notice of alleged corruption in renting a building for the authority by NADRA officials. He ordered FIA to probe into the alleged embezzlement and bring the people involved in it to book. The NADRA had suspended DG Akram in October last on charges of gross violations of Public Procurement Regulatory Authority (PPRA) Rules in renting the office building.
