Iran issues tender to buy Indian rice

07 Mar, 2017

Iran's state grains buyer GTC has issued an international tender to buy at least 10,000 tonnes of rice to be sourced from India, European traders said on Monday.
The tender closes on March 7 with shipment sought between April 15 and May 15.
Iran issued two tenders on Thursday for a total of 60,000 tonnes of rice to be sourced from Argentina and Thailand with the same shipment period.
The GTC also issued a tender last week to buy 60,000 tonnes of raw sugar to be sourced from Brazil.
Traders said Iran has mainly bought rice in directly negotiated deals in recent years and the issuing of new tenders could indicate a return to more traditional purchasing after the relaxation of Western sanctions.
