The city police on Thursday registered a first information report (FIR) against unidentified persons who are running Facebook pages such as Bhensa, Mochi and Roshni and spreading blasphemous material on it. Police have registered the FIR following the directives of Islamabad High Court (IHC) to take action against those running blasphemous Facebook pages such as Bhensa, Mochi and Roshni. The FIR has been registered under Sections 298-A/298-A/295-C of blasphemy laws.
According to the FIR, content of pages have badly hurt the sentiments of Muslims. Police registered FIR two days after Islamabad High Court Judge Shaukat Aziz Siddiqui ordered for a ban on social media sites in Pakistan due to the spread of "blasphemous" images online. The IHC judge on March 7 ordered Interior Minister Nisar Ali Khan to take immediate action to eliminate access to blasphemous contents on social media. The court mentioned pages like Bhensa, Mochi and Roshni and ordered that action should be taken even if all access to social media is blocked.
