FIA submits initial report on spot-fixing

Federal Investigation Agency (FIA) will ascertain the elements responsible for spot-fixing in Pakistan Super League (PSL), subsequent to a forensic analysis of information provided by Pakistan Sports Board (PSB) and other evidences. An official said that the FIA submitted its preliminary report on spot-fixing in PSL to Interior Minister Chaudhry Nisar Ali Khan.
The report highlighted measures taken to prevent spot-fixing during the event and pointed out possibility of involvement of certain players, he said. "The FIA team investigating the matter is also examining the issue of deleting the messages from mobile phones by certain players in order to establish who (players) were in contact with bookies and also what matters were agreed upon amongst them," he said while quoting the initial report of FIA.
The PSB on March 2 had referred the case of PSL spot-fixing to FIA for further investigation. Later the agency had taken the cell phones of players into its custody and launched an investigation, he said, adding that agency had also questioned players for their alleged involvement in spot-fixing.
It is pertinent to be mentioned here Khalid Latif and Sharjeel Khan, both players of Islamabad United, had been suspended for their alleged involvement in spot-fixing. According to a statement of Ministry of Interior, the interior minister directed FIA to complete an investigation into the spot-fixing in PSL on an immediate basis. The minister issued these directives during a meeting with FIA officials who presented the initial report of the PSL spot-fixing to him.
