KE converts 74 more PMTs on ABC

K-Electric on Friday claimed to have converted some 74 pole mounted transformers (PMTs) on power theft-resistant Aerial Bundled Cables (ABC) in the selected areas of Karachi during last week. A KE spokesman said the ABCs were installed in Bahadurabad, Clifton, FB Area, Garden, Landhi and North Karachi during the last 7 days. Since the launch of the 'Ujala Project' to date almost 1900 PMT's have been converted on ABC.
The KE has so far facilitated different communities through the installation of ABC, new transformers and low-cost connections. Selected areas of Lines Area, Saddar, Liaquatabad, Gazdarabad, Rehmat Chowk, Altaf Town and Keamari are now free of power-theft with a minimal fault ratio while they were previously infested with illegal connections and fault ratio was quite high.
"The drive against power-theft and illegal connections remains a key priority for the company. It has helped in bringing Transmission and Distribution losses down to as low as 22 percent from 36 percent in 2009," the spokesman said, adding that it has resulted in exemption of 61% of Karachi from load-shedding and ensured provision of uninterrupted power supply to the industrial zones. K-Electric launched the project 'Ujala' earlier this year, with an estimated investment of Rs 5 billion to facilitate over 1 million people residing in 200 localities across its network.
