Asian Development Bank (ADB) Mission met with Nizam-ud-Din, Secretary of Public Health Engineering Department (PHED), Government of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, on Friday in the latter office. The mission included Mission leader, Kiyoshi Nakamistsu, Urban Development Specialist, Jung Ho Kim, Senior Project Officer Pakistan Resident Mission, Mian Shaukat Shafi, CDIA Project Manager for Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, Neil Chadder. Secretary PHED was assisted by his team, comprising of Tufail Muhammad Deputy Secretary (Admin) & Senior PHED Engineers/officers.
Secretary PHED elaborated main features of Provincial Drinking Water Policy, 2015 and various reforms and developmental initiatives of the government. It was apprised that pursuant to the KP Drinking Water Policy 2015, preparation of Master Plan is already underway. Similarly, PHE is gradually shifting its tube well operations from National Grid Electric based to Solar based due to long breakdown & low voltage problems and to minimize operation cost. The department is putting in efforts to provide potable drinking water & sanitation facilities to all the inhabitants of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa in rural areas.
