At least two security personnel and five militants were killed during an exchange of firing between the insurgents and the troops in area of Orakzai Agency on Wednesday, the army said. The Inter-Services Public Relations (ISPR) said in a statement that the Frontier Constabulary (FC) conducted an Intelligence Base Operation (IOB) in village Mirak, Kalaya, Orakzai Agency.
The exchange of firing was triggered off when security forces launched an operation to hunt down the militants in the agency. Major Mudassar and Sepoy Mateehullah also embraced Shahadat in exchange of fire. Forces killed five militants belonging to banned organisations during the operation. The killed militants also included a commander of Tehreek-e-Taliban Pakistan (TTP) who was sent from Afghanistan with a special task to target gatherings of Nauroz, the statement said.
Wednesday's operation was a continuation of Operation Radd-ul-Fasaad which was kicked off in February this year after a series of terrorist attacks left over 100 people killed and more than 300 others injured in the country. The operation aims at eliminating the terrorism and ensuring the security of Pakistan's borders.
