This is apropos a Business Recorder op-ed "Operation Searchlight" carried by the newspaper on Friday. The writer, Ikram Sehgal, has written, as a key witness to the events that preceded the break-up of Pakistan, in a nostalgic manner. The lack of political initiatives on the part of West Pakistan is the most profound reason behind the fall of Dacca.What have we done with the Hamoodur Rahman Commission report so far? Nothing.
The controversy generated by former Pakistan ambassador to US Husain Haqqani is highly alarming because of a host of reasons. We must begin to draw some valuable lessons from our mistakes.
Pakistan People's Party while defending the then PM's letter to the Foreign Office has underscored the need for making the Abbottabad Commission report public. Let's avoid making more mistakes; let's do what is best in the interest of the country. And what constitutes 'national interest' must be determined by the civilian and military leadership without any further loss of time.
