NA body recommends completion of GHP at any cost

01 Apr, 2017

The National Assembly Standing Committee on Overseas Pakistanis and Human Resource Development on Friday recommended that construction work on Grand Hyatt Plaza (GHP) should be completed, whatever the circumstances may arise. A meeting of the committee was held here in the Parliament House in the chair of MNA Aamir Ali Khan Magsi. The committee was given a detailed briefing about status of the plaza and its allottees after a recent decision of the Islamabad High Court.
The management of the under-construction Grand Hyatt Plaza lost a legal battle with the Capital Development Authority (CDA) in the first week of March over land ownership as the Islamabad High Court dismissed petitions against the cancellation of the lease of the land on which the 5-star hotel and luxury apartments were being constructed. The committee members were informed that in July 2016, the CDA Board cancelled the lease for violating the contract with the authority by constructing residential apartments on the plot.
The committee chairman, however, recommended that construction work on the project should be completed at the earliest as it is impacting the allottees financially. The committee deferred the Emigration (Amendment) Bill, 2017 due to absence of the mover of the bill. The committee discussed the Children (Pledging of Labour) (Amendment) Bill, 2017 and also deferred it till its next meeting.
