Several detained over protest against IGP's transfer

'Fix It' campaigners protested against Sindh Police Inspector General A D Khowaja's sacking on Sunday prompting administration to mobilise water canon and police personnel to counter the protesters. A D Khowaja was removed from the post on Saturday and the Government of Sindh had appointed Sardar Abdul Majeed Dasti as the Inspector General of Sindh Police.
The sacked top official refused to comply with the orders asserting that the federation reserved the right to sack him and not the provincial government.
Founder of 'Fix It' campaign, Alamgir Khan was detained on Sunday as charged protesters stood against police that had resorted to water canon, tear gas shelling and baton charge.
The Sindh government had recommended three officers for appointment as the IGP however, Dasti was asked to assume the charge without waiting for the federation's reply.
Reportedly, the federal government has objected to all three names, Dasti, Ghulam Qadir Thebu and Khadim Hussain. Fix it: Karachi social campaigner starts covering potholes on his own. The clash intensified as Fix It supporters attempted to move to Chief Minister House to allegedly record protest.
Fix It founder was earlier detained last year for attempting to dump Karachi waste outside Chief Minister House after multiple calls to clean Karachi of garbage.
