Media urged to create awareness about donations

Promotion of safe charity practices would play a vital role in helping most poor segments of society from Rs 544 billion generated annually in Pakistan through donations therefore media needs to raise awareness among people to give their charity to recognised organizations.
According to a study conducted by a non governmental Organization, Rs 544 billion generated in Pakistan annually through donations of which 72 percent people donate during Ramazan and Eid holidays, said Gulmina Bilal Executive Director Individual land Pakistan while speaking at a discussion. She said that 26 percent people who donate such huge amount were not aware about the use of their donations. It was our national obligation to convey a message to the common people to give their charities with utmost care and accordance with the Islamic principle in order to help poor people, she said, adding that media organizations need to play their role in this national cause to educate people in this regard.
Gulmina said that people need to give their charity and donations to close relatives or poor in neighbour hood or give donations to improve the public facilities in our surroundings like schools, dispensaries, playgrounds for the poor children.
She further said that her Organization held a seminar and workshop regarding promotion of safe charity practices in different cities to sensitize the media persons, students and general public on the issue and to encourage them to play their part in creating awareness in the society.
Sundas Syeda a senior research analyst said that it was joint responsibility of masses to play their role for the promotion of safe charity practices and inform the concerned authorities in case suspicious persons seek monetary help in the name of charity or donations.-PR
