Marriyum briefs UK team about parliamentary system

The Pakistan-UK Parliamentary Friendship Group in the National Assembly of Pakistan (PFG) met with the 6-Member UK Parliamentary Delegation; says a press release issued here on Tuesday. The meeting was chaired by Minister of State for Information and Broadcasting Marriyum Aurangzeb on Tuesday at Parliament House. The chair briefed the delegation about the parliamentary system of Pakistan and over all political reforms.
She told the members of the delegation that the current government has taken a number of steps designed to strengthen the Parliament and to enhance the capacity of the individual parliamentarians to deliver the goods and above all to foster a culture of parliamentary democracy all around. These initiatives include:
-- Establishment of SDG's Secretariat
-- Capacity Building of the Parliamentarians and Parliamentary Staff
-- Interns via NIP Program
-- Formation of the Pakistan Institute for Parliamentary Services (PIPS)
-- Conversion of the Parliament Building into a Green Parliament
-- Induction of Young Researchers to assist the Parliamentarians
While participating in the question/ answer session Members of Pak - UK PFG highlighted the following issues:
-- Kashmir Issue
-- Strengthening Democracy
-- Co-operation on counter terrorism issue
-- Discussion on Pak - UK bilateral relations
-- Culture and Education
UK Parliamentarians demonstrated tremendous interest and excitement in further cementing the relationships with Pakistan. They also appreciated the fact that democracy is fast taking roots in Pakistan.-PR
