Violations of IWT by India may trigger war: PMKM

07 Apr, 2017

Continuous violations of the Indus Basin Water Treaty by India may lead to a horrific war between the two neighbouring countries and the international community should take it as a matter of concern.
India was threatening Pakistan of breaking the 1960 Indus Basin Water Treaty and stopping the water of Chenab, Jhelum and Sindh rivers by changing their natural flow by constructing dams without any review under the treaty, alleged Pakistan Mutthida Kissan Mahaz (PMKM) Chief Ayub Khan Mayo while presenting a resolution at an All-Parties Conference (APC) arranged by his party here on Thursday.
Speaking at the conference, Jamaat-e-Islami General Secretary Liaquat Baloch urged the government to immediately convene a session of all the four provincial and national assemblies and the senate to convey a joint stance of the nation against Indian water aggression. He appreciated the growers for raising this water aggression and assured support to take this move against Indian water aggression to its logical end.
PPP leader Mian Manzoor Ahmad Wattoo said that Indian threats were aimed at destroying the agriculture of Pakistan. He said he would take up this issue with his party leadership and would fully support the growers' movement.
Opposition leader in the Punjab Assembly Mian Mahmood-Ur-Rasheed alleged that the rulers were showing a lukewarm attitude. He said he would soon convene a meeting of heads of all the parties in the parliament besides bringing it to the notice of his party head for adopting a joint and coordinated strategy.
PMKM Chief Ayub Khan Mayo announced that hundreds of thousands of farmers would stage a protest demonstration in front of the diplomatic enclave on this issue. Others who spoke on this occasion included PML-F Senator Muhammad Ali Durrani, Muhammad Aslam Ghumman of the PTI, Nadir Meer of Pakistan National Reformer, Tasleem Noorani, JUP' Central President Pir Ijaz Hashmi, President Isteqlal Party Syed Manzoor Hussain Gillani and various others. They all announced their full support for the Pakistan Mutthida Kissan Mahaz in its movement against the Indian water aggression.
