With the aim to make Google Images a useful tool for shopping, Google has introduced an Artificially Intelligent-powered Google Lens to search and shop for things within Google Images.

In a recent blog post by Google, the tech-giant announced about its new feature of incorporating Lens to Google Images learn more about a certain image or any particular thing in any image and be able to shop any item if they wish.

Google explained that when a user sees something in an image about which they wish to know more, such as a landmark in a travel photo or wallpaper in a stylish room, they can use Lens to explore within the image.

Users can now ‘follow’ their favorite locations on Google Maps

“Lens in Google Images identifies things within an image you might want to learn about, and shows you similar ones. When you press the Lens button in Google Images, dots will appear on objects you can learn more about,” detailed Google.

Also, Lens will help people to shop things they find in Google Images. For instance, if a user is trying to look for ideas for redecorating any room and during their search in Google Images they find a couch, for instance, interesting, they may not know where to buy that item from. Here is where Lens feature will help.

“All you need to do is press the Lens button, then either tap on a dot on the couch, or draw around it, and Google Images will show you related information and images. From there, you can learn more about it, or find places where you might be able to buy a similar couch.”

Lens not only helps the consumers, but also is beneficial for businesses, as per the search engine. Google explained that via Lens, website owners can find a new way for being discovered through a visual search, just like it’s done in a normal Google Search.

The feature is for now only available on mobile web pages for US people searching in English. However, Google stated that Lens will be rolled out to other countries and other languages soon.
