SMEDA sets up Sialkot business center

With a view to facilitate export industry, the Small and Medium Enterprises Development Authority (SMEDA) has set up Sialkot Business and Commerce Center in Sialkot with a cost of Rs 312.94 million. The grey structure of the project has been completed while internal finishing works of all floors is near completion. Installation of front curtain wall is in process for which procurement has been made as per PC-1, sources told Business Recorder on Thursday.
SMEDA took this initiative keeping in view the stakeholders' demand, being in need of such facility. Sialkot Chamber of Commerce and Industry is the project partner that has provided land worth Rs 170 million. The project that is likely to become functional by the next month is aimed at providing business infrastructure facility for exporters especially SMEs besides strengthening partnership between the private and public sector.
It is noteworthy that Sialkot, which is substantially contributing to the country's foreign exchange earnings, is a cluster of leather, sports, surgical instruments and musical instruments industry as most of the products are exported from here, sources added.
