Misuse of amenity areas: NAB asks SBCA to submit report in a week

National Accountability Bureau (NAB), Karachi has given a week deadline to the Sindh Building Control Authority (SBCA) to submit a report over the misuse of amenity areas in residential edifices. According to NAB officials, Agha Maqsood Abbas, DG SBCA and his team called on DG NAB, Karachi Mohammad Altaf Bawany office to give presentation on Public Service Delivery Matters.
The presentation was invited under Section 33 (C) of NAO-1999 and was attended by all the Directors of NAB Karachi. The role of SBCA came under discussion for enforcement of building rules/ regulations and the DG SBCA enlightened the members about the steps taken for general public facilitation.
Meanwhile, DG NAB, Karachi showed grave concerns over the misuse of amenity areas in constructed buildings and directed to submit a report within a week after restoring the said amenity areas. He said proactive role should be played by NAB and SBCA against the 'Builder Mafia' in Karachi to safeguard the interest of poor masses. He also ordered to speed up the process for approval of proposed amendments in exacting laws, regarding Town Planning and Master Planning in Karachi and rest of the Sindh. The DG NAB, Karachi further recommended to take all stakeholders on board and establish a Prevention Committee for facilitation of general public regarding building regulation issues dealt by SBCA.
