Adviser to the Prime Minister on Foreign Affairs Sartaj Aziz in a letter sent to the United Nations Secretary General Antonio Guterres has drawn his attention towards the Indian government's plan of bringing demographic changes in the Indian-held Kashmir (IHK) for converting the Muslim-majority into a minority there. Aaj News reported on Saturday that the adviser expressed the hope that Pakistan's reservations over the issue would receive urgent attention of the UN secretary general, Security Council and the UNHCR.
Elaborating, the adviser stated that the Indian move is aimed at converting the Muslim majority into a minority so as to pre-empt the results of the UN-administered plebiscite as envisaged in the Security Council's resolutions for the settlement of the Kashmir dispute. The letter was delivered to the UN Under-secretary-general for Political Affairs, Jeffrey Feltman, at the UN Headquarters in New York by Pakistan's Ambassador to the UN, Maleeha Lodhi.
