A parliamentary panel on Tuesday recommended canceling ten kanals of land plot allotted to Pakistan Foreign Office Women's Association, saying land given for welfare purposes can not be used for commercial purposes. A ten-kanals plot situated at a prime location, which was allotted to Pakistan Foreign Office Women's Association, was given to Roots Millennium School through a joint venture for the establishment of a school on it.
The Senate Committee on Cabinet Secretariat which met here with Talha Mehmood in chair directed Capital Development Authority (CDA) to submit a detailed report to the committee in its next meeting detailing the commercial use of the plot. The civic body officials said that all the details pertaining to misuse of the plot will be presented before the committee that is going to take place after Eidul Fitr.
An official of the CDA said that the 10-kanal plot in Sector H-8 was allotted to the association by the Capital Development Authority (CDA) in 1996. He said that the cost of the plot was not paid by the association and after 10 years not only the escalation was waived off but also the actual cost was paid by the Prime Minister. The plot was allotted for a charity purpose but now a joint venture has been set up to use it for a commercial purpose. He said that influential people within the Ministry of Foreign Affairs are bent upon to use the plot for commercial purposes as their children have been studying there on a nominal fee.
