NA body passes NCHR Amendment Bill 2017

The National Assembly Standing Committee on Human Rights unanimously passed the bill titled 'The National Commission for Human Rights (NCHR) Amendment Bill, 2017.' MNA Babar Nawaz Khan chaired the committee in which the committee considered and passed the bill. The bill was moved by MNA Muhammad Muzammil Qureshi.
The committee recommended amendment in section 3 & 5, Act XVI of 2012, to fix the age limit of retirement as not more than 65 years, for the chairman and the members of the commission. The committee after having a brief discussion, deferred the bill titled 'The Islamabad Capital Territory Child Protection Bill, 2017' for a detailed discussion in the next meeting. The committee also deferred the review of the National Commission for Human Rights (NCHR), Act, 2012, till its next meeting.
The committee was given a briefing by director general Ministry of Human Rights on implementation status of action plan for human rights but the committee members expressed their concern over the performance of four action plans. The committee decided to defer the implementation status of action plans for human rights. The committee also directed the ministry to discuss the performance of four commissions since February 2016, Mashal Khan murder case, and purpose of allocation of funds in the action plan and other issues.
