"We see humanity in professions like nursing, and today is the day to celebrate it, so we all are celebrating humanity, dear nurses go out and serve society, it's your day," said Mehtab Akbar Rashidi, Member Standing Committee on Primary Health, Government of Sindh. She was speaking at Ziauddin University to mark the International Nurses & Midwives Day, and 197th birthday of Florence Nightingale.
The event was organised by the Ziauddin College of Nursing to highlight the current health issues. Addressing the event as Chief Guest Mehtab Akbar Rashidi talked about the rights of women and said, "Women have every right to proud themselves, you can deny everything but woman is a woman, you can't deny this."
While talking about Nurses & Midwives, Dr Rozina Karmaliani, Professor, School of Nursing, Aga Khan University, the keynote speaker at the ceremony, said that "The Wealth of nation depends on our health and health of our nation depends on nursing and midwifery, it is our profession and we are proud of it." She also discussed about sustainable development goals, universality, integration and transformation. She motivated nurses by saying "you all are playing role of a mother to this nation, so consider yourselves as a full partner for patients."
Professor Dr Pirzada Qasim, Vice Chancellor Ziauddin University said that nursing college is the oldest entity associated with Ziauddin University. Nurses are indication of change, and they are trained for this particular area. This day gives us motivation; to train more nurses with latest technologies, we have to make Pakistan a knowledge base society for the whole world.
On this occasion, students of College of Nursing took oath and presented lamp lighting ceremony to pay tribute to Florence Nightingale on her 197th birthday. Earlier, a poster competition was organised to create awareness and highlight role of nurses in the society.-PR
