The Lahore Chamber of Commerce and Industry (LCCI) has appealed to the traders, wholesalers and retailers to ensure discounted prices of daily use items and eatables for the masses during the Ramazan.
LCCI office-bearers including President Abdul Basit, Senior Vice President Amjad Ali Jawa and Vice President Muhammad Nasir Hameed Khan in their joint statement on Monday said the availability of eatables including pulses, ghee, cooking oil, basin (gram flour), flour, fruits and vegetables at discounted rates in Ramazan would help enable the low-income groups to observe fast with an ease and it is also the essence of true Islam.
It is our duty to ensure relief to the less privileged class during Ramazan in particular to earn the blessings of Allah, they said. It is common practice in the western world that the business community announces special discounts on all special occasions like Christmas while situation in our country is quite discouraging, they added.
They said that care of masses is prime duty of business community therefore they should scarify their profit and ensure availability of daily use items and eatables at low prices during Ramazan. However, LCCI office-bearers expressed grave concern on repeated power outages and urged the Lahore Electric Supply Company (LESCO) to ensure uninterrupted power supply.
