Punjab Chief Minister Shehbaz Sharif has said that provision of essential items, fruits and vegetables to the people on fixed prices will be ensured at every cost during the holy month of Ramazan. He further said that effective steps would ensure stability in prices of essential items in Sustay Ramazan Bazaars as well as in other marketplaces.
While issuing directions to the Provincial Cabinet Committee on Price Control here on Monday, the CM said it is the responsibility of the concerned departments and the administration to ensure prompt supply of essential items in Sustay Ramazan Bazaars and other markets on fixed rates. Therefore, the concerned departments and the administration should proactively work to provide genuine relief to the people. The CM said that stability in the prices of essential items, their quality and prompt supply should also be ensured in ordinary markets; and vigorous crackdown should be conducted against the illegal profiteers.
Punjab government for the first time has given Ramazan Package worth Rs 9 billion to provide relief to the people. A subsidy of Rs 8.78 billion has been given for the provision of subsidized flour, he added. He emphasized that every penny of Ramazan Package should benefit the people and public representatives, administration as well as price control committees should continue to play their effective role so that the people could fully benefit from the historic Ramazan Package.
