Hussain Nawaz on Thursday appeared for the third time before the joint investigation team (JIT) probing the Panama Papers case and recorded his statement in connection with his family's offshore assets. Hussain Nawaz reached Federal Judicial Academy (FJA) at about 10:00am, but he was summond to the conference room by 12 noon. The JIT headed by Additional Director General Federal Investigation Agency (FIA), Wajid Zia grilled Hussain for about four-and-a-half hours.
Hussain, while talking to media persons after a long JIT session, said that there is no evidence against his father and his other family members regarding any irregularity. "When there is no evidence against his family then how can it be proved," he said, adding that he was interrogated alone and his lawyer was not allowed to accompany him. To a question, he said if the proceedings of the JIT continue according to the law of the land then it is fair, otherwise he would move the Supreme Court as well as "the court of public."
He said he has been summoned by the JIT again in to next session. "The JIT kept me waiting for two hours," he said, adding that whenever the JIT summoned him he would appear before it obligingly. Earlier, when he reached the FJA at 10:00am, he told media persons that fake cases were lodged against the Sharif family during the era of the then President, Pervez Musharraf, he alleged. "We are giving answers and politicians will always continue giving answers," he added.
He said the JIT has not summoned his younger brother Hassan Nawaz yet and he will appear before the JIT whenever the probing team summons him. Earlier, the Prime Minister's son was not allowed to carry his mobile phones with him and he handed over his phone to his staff officer when he entered the FJA. The Prime Minister's son was greeted by a number of Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz (PML-N) activists and leaders including Daniyal Aziz and Hanif Abbasi upon his arrival.
The city police made special security arrangements around the academy and all the roads leading to the FJA were a blocked, besides heavy contingent of police was deployed to prevent any untoward incident. The members of JIT include Additional DG FIA Wajid Zia, Amir Aziz of State Bank of Pakistan (SBP), Bilal Rasool from Securities & Exchange Commission of Pakistan (SECP), Irfan Naeem Mangi from National Accountability Bureau (NAB), Brigadier Nauman Saeed from Inter-Services Intelligence (ISI) and Brigadier Kamran Khursheed from Military Intelligence (MI).
