Hussain Nawaz said on Saturday that Joint Investigation Team (JIT) investigating the Panama Papers case has not yet summoned his father Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif who, according to him, always abides by the law and believes in supremacy of rule of law. Hussain, the eldest son of Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif, arrived at the Federal Judicial Academy (FJA) amid tight security arrangements and appeared before the JIT headed by Additional Director General (DG) Federal Investigation Agency (FIA), Wajid Zia, for the forth time. He recorded his statement before the JIT in the connection with his family's assets.
After an over four-hour long JIT session, Hussian talked to media persons. He said that Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif has yet not been summoned by JIT to record his statement. "If it [JIT] wants to question him, he has always obeyed and stressed upon the supremacy and rule of law," he said.
Hussain said he would appear before the JIT whenever it summons him. "So far no evidence has surfaced against us and all the allegations levelled against my family are confined to hearsay," he said, adding, "Previously we had also faced administrative accountability." Hussain said, "Now the Supreme Court has given two months to JIT for investigation but during the Pervez Musharraf rule, we along with witnesses spent 14 months in jail."
"At the end of the day there was nothing against us except the plane hijacking case and what was the truth in that case is not privy to people," he said. He said, "today we have same assets and face same allegations. If there is any evidence against us, it would have surfaced during the Musharraf era." Hussain said those who thought that his family would run away from accountability must feel embarrassed now.
To a question about his family's London flats, he said, "As far as flats are concerned, they are not controversial flats, we have given our account about these flats in the Supreme Court and we stick to that narrative." Hussain said he has responded to questions asked by the members of JIT and submitted several documents before the probing team. Earlier, the Prime Minister's son was greeted by a number of Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz (PML-N) workers and leaders upon his arrival. Previously, Hussain appeared before JIT on May 28, May 30 and June 1. On June 2, Prime Minister's younger son Hassan Nawaz appeared before the JIT and was probed for more than seven hours. He, however, did not speak to media persons.
