National Transmission and Despatch Company Ltd (NTDC) spokesman said on Wednesday that some miscreants made an attempt to blow up tower of 500 kV Hub-NKI transmission line (TL). The explosive material partially damaged the legs of tower No 72 at Northern Bypass near 500 kV NKI grid station district West Karachi, however, power supply remained uninterrupted to concerned parts of Karachi. The spokesman said that the repair work of the damaged tower has been started and will be completed soon.
Moreover, the spokesman said that NTDC has completed the rehabilitation work of seven (7) collapsed towers of 500 kV Dadu-Shikarpur transmission line and made it operational last night (6 June 2017). The said transmission line was one of the three 500 kV transmission lines which were affected due to force majeure (high intensity cyclone) and damaged 16 towers on 21 May 2017. Two other 500 kV Jamshoro-Dadu transmission line and 500 kV Dadu-Guddu transmission line had already been energised by NTDC engineers, staff and contractors within shortest possible time. The NTDC spokesman said that with the energization of said transmission line, the second link has also been re-established between Northern and Southern systems, enhancing the reliability and smoothness of the power transmission system of the country.
The NTDC engineers and contractors worked under extreme weather conditions of over 50 degree centigrade and difficult terrain of Semi Mountains and slushy area of Kinjhar Lake in district Dadu. Managing Director NTDC Dr Fiaz A. Chaudhry appreciated the hectic efforts and commitment of both engineers and contractors who worked round the clock to accomplish the assigned tasks for provision of sustainable power supply to southern part of the country.
