Vice Chairman of Pakistan Tehrik-e-Insaaf, Shah Mahmood Qureshi, was stopped on Saturday from meeting Jamshed Dasti, MNA in Multan Jail. Talking to media persons, Qureshi said that jail authorities informed him that he cannot meet Dasti without a nod from high-ups in Lahore. He said he wanted to get an application signed by Jamshed Dasti requesting the National Assembly speaker to issue his production order.
He said since Dasti was staying in jail in his constituency it was his moral duty to meet him but the authorities refused him to see the jailed parliamentarian. He said that he had even requested that he would wait at the gate and a jail official could get the application signed from Dasti but to no avail.
The PTI senior leader said the government was victimizing those who are strong critics of its policies. He said Sheikh Rashid was maltreated through a PML-N worker in the national assembly a couple of days back while Jamshed Dasti has been put in jail for protest during the address of the President to the parliament and for joining the opposition parties to stage a walkout. He said the arrest of Dasti was part of political victimization.
He alleged that a Minister had warned Dasti of serious consequences for his behaviour. He said the government appears to be unable to give proper answers to the joint investigation team in Panama case. Qureshi said that the government distributing sweets on the verdict of the Supreme Court was now trying to make the JIT controversial. He was of the opinion that at some point of time the PML-N could boycott the JIT. He said attack on JIT is an attack on Supreme Court and in such situation the PTI would stand by the Apex Court. A large number of PTI activists also reached at the gate of the Central Jail and held a protest with Qureshi for not allowing him to meet the arrested MNA.
