Inspector General of Police (IGP) Sindh A D Khowaja Tuesday sought a comprehensive and efficient strategy to control street crimes in Karachi. The IGP, chairing a meeting at Central Police Office here, directed DIGs and SPs of different districts of the metropolis to depute plain-clothes policemen around all central shopping centres.
Seeking presence of sizable strength of cops around all major markets for the security of shoppers, Khowaja said co-ordination among policemen must also be ensured. The Sindh police chief also ordered search, clearance and sweeping of all parking lots in and around markets and shopping centres. "ATMs and banks located in areas worst hit by the crimes must be particularly covered through closely located police pickets," he said.
A D Khowaja also ordered frequent snap checking in the crime affected areas, reiterating that Crime and Control Centre functional in the Central Police Office must ensure compliance of these directives. The IGP Sindh said the presence of vigilant cops must be ensured at all exit and entry points to the metropolis and that they may also be assigned essential responsibilities on the routes leading to and from suburbs. He warned that law-abiding citizens must not be harassed under any pretext.
