Bid to smuggle foreign currency foiled

A large amount of foreign currency containing Saudi Riyal, UAE Dirham and US Dollars were recovered from currency pushers when the custom officials foiled twin bids of foreign currency smuggling from Pakistan to Afghanistan at Torkham border. Custom Superintendent, Naeem Khan told on Tuesday that on the direction of Collector Peshawar that some element would make attempt of smuggling the currency from Pakistan to Afghanistan, strict security measures were adopted and the officials put on high alert at the Pak-Afghan sharing Torkham.
He told that on Monday night 0.1 million Saudi riyal and 0.1 million UAE, dirham were recovered from an Afghanistan bound passenger during routine checking, concealed in the baggage. Similarly in another happen occurred on Tuesday, the custom official added that 0.4 millions Saudi Riyal and 40000 US dollars were recovered from an Afghan currency smuggler who was taking illegally to Afghanistan. Three currency smugglers identified as Shamel Khan, Jidatullah and Saeed were arrested and cases were registered against them.
