The Lahore High Court on Thursday directed the religious affairs ministry to decide the Hajj quota strictly on merit and disposed of the petitions of the private tour operators.
The private tour operators had approached the court against unfair allocation of quota. The petitioners' counsel, Muhammad Azhar Siddique, said the Supreme Court had observed that the petitioners should be given 40 per cent quota but the government was not inclined to comply with this order. He said the private tour operators offered economic financial packages, quality management and services. He therefore said that the Hajj quota should be allotted according to the recommendations made by the SC. The court after hearing the counsel at length disposed of the petitions with necessary directions.
