Lahore High Court Chief Justice Syed Mansoor Ali Shah on Friday issued notice to the secretary labour Punjab for July 14 in a contempt petition for not complying with the court order of framing policy for domestic workers. The Chief Justice also directed the petitioner's counsel to come up with foreign countries laws which have given protection to domestic workers.
The petitioner's counsel, Sheraz Zaka, contended that in 2015 the LHC had ordered the secretary labour department to frame policy regarding wages of domestic workers and declare them industrial workers. He submitted that minor age girls and boys employed for domestic household work were being subjected to maltreatment.
He said child labour menace had increased manifold over the past few years in domestic household work due to non-existence of policy or regulation for the domestic workers. He therefore prayed the court to initiate contempt of court proceedings for not complying with the court order.
