The Karachi Port handled 153,869 tonnes of cargo comprising 127,782 tonnes of import cargo and 26,087 tonnes of export cargo including 6,629 loaded and empty containers during the last 24 hours ending at 0700 hours on Wednesday. The total import cargo of 127,782 tonnes comprised of 36,416 tonnes of containerised cargo; 3,481 tonnes of general cargo; 20,946 tonnes of bulk cargo: 10,267 tonnes of coal; 2,654 tonnes of soyabean meal; 1,474 tonnes of steel scrap; 6,551 tonnes of fertilizer and 66,939 tonnes of oil/liquid cargo.
The total export cargo of 26,087 tonnes comprised of 26,014 tonnes of containerised cargo and 73 tonnes of general cargo. As many as 6,629 containers comprising of 2,556 containers import and 4,073 containers export were handled during the last 24 hours on Wednesday.
The breakup of imported containers shows 819 of 20's and 806 of 40's loaded while 05 of 20's and 60 of 40's empty containers, whereas that of exported containers shows 532 of 20's and 657 of 40's loaded containers while 629 of 20's and 799 of 40's empty containers were handled during the business hours. There were eight ships namely Hyundai Force, Al Rawdah, ALS Apollo, Sea Master-IV, Nord Larkspur, Bhairavi, BBC Ursa and Han Ren carrying containers, oil tankers, chemical, steel and general cargo respectively sailed out to sea during the reported period.
There were eight vessels viz. Ever Daimond, MSC Lara, Prosper, YM Keelung, MT Karachi, Intrepid Republic, Red Azalea and Serser carrying containers, oil tanker, chemical, coal and general cargo respectively currently at the berths. There was one ship namely Intrepid Republic carrying chemical sailed out to sea on Wednesday, while two ships namely Kota Kamil and Ever Diamond carrying containers are expected to sail on Thursday.
There were six vessels viz. MOL Emerald, Bow Mekka, Pacific Bright, Glovis Captain, U Lucky and King Island carrying containers, chemical, coal, vehicle and general cargo respectively due to arrive on Wednesday while five vessels viz. Linus-P, Vinalines Sunrise, Skelt, Hony Future and Atlantic Clover carrying chemical, DAP, palm kernel, steel and general cargo respectively are due to arrive on Thursday. There are five vessels viz. Polo, Najran, APL Japan, CMA CGM Rossni and Dream Jasmine carrying containers and vehicle respectively due to arrive on Friday.
