Spain to create over 28,000 public service jobs this year

The Spanish government will create some 28,249 public service jobs this year, the Budget Minister Cristobal Montoro said on Friday, the first mass hiring after years of employment freezes and layoffs though a prolonged economic downturn. The new posts will help fill thousands of government positions after years of cuts as the country fought a spiralling budget deficit, soaring unemployment and sliding economic output.
"This isn't so much as returning to past but rather having the most qualified public workers after the painful phase we've passed through," Montoro said in the press conference following the weekly cabinet meeting.
