Model Customs Collectorate (MCC) Islamabad has unearthed a unique technique used by smugglers to bring marijuana and cocaine under the garb of supplements in the country. Sources told Business Recorder here on Thursday that it is an interesting case of detection of psychotropic drugs by customs of MCC Islamabad.
The MCC Islamabad has taken extra measures at import and export stages to intercept such kinds of consignments containing psychotropic drugs. In view of the latest incident, the MCC Islamabad has intensified efforts to check smuggling of psychotropic drugs.
According to sources, during examination a parcel booked by Asim Khan, resident of 17 Shepherds Nottingham, UK, for Raja Asaam B34, Major Farooq Road, Shumali Muhallah, Jehlum, Punjab, was found suspicious. The parcel was containing sealed supplement jar and T-shirts. Detailed examination of the parcel led to the recovery of 465 grams of marijuana and 25 grams of cocaine tactfully concealed inside the jar of supplement. Estimated value of narcotics in international market is about Rs 5.25 million. The special team of customs arrested the accused from Jhelum and an FIR is being lodged against the said named consignee under the Customs Act, 1969. Further investigation is in progress.
