Monsoon weather system is expected to enter Sindh from Saturday with heavy clouds to unleash widespread rains across the lower parts of the province including Karachi Division. The Met Office has forecast widespread rain/dust-thunderstorm with isolated moderate to heavy falls in Lower Sindh including Karachi, Mirpurkhas and Hyderabad Divisions from July 15 through Monday.
It said that rain/dust-thunderstorm with isolated heavy falls also expected in Zhob, Sibbi, Naseerabad, Kalat and Makran Divisions from coming Sunday to Tuesday. Heavy downpours are feared to trigger flooding in vulnerable parts of Balochistan, it alerted.
It asked the concerned authorities to remain vigilant and active from Saturday to Wednesday. "The present weather system in Punjab, Khyber Pakhtunkhwa and Kashmir has weakened. However, more monsoon rains predicted in upper parts [Upper Punjab, KP, Gilgit-Baltistan and Kashmir] of the country during Sunday and Wednesday. Moderate to Heavy falls may generate land sliding in vulnerable areas of upper parts of the country," it said.
In the next 24 hours: More rain-thunderstorms are expected in Punjab, Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, Eastern Balochistan, Islamabad, FATA, Gilgit-Baltistan and Kashmir. Light rain/drizzle is also expected across the Sindh coast.
Maximum rainfall was recorded at Islamabad's Zero Point as 103 mm, Saidpur 76 mm, Golra 52 mm, Bokra 35 mm. Rawalpindi (Shamsabad 97 mm, Chaklala 70 mm), M.B Din 83 mm, Gujranwala 61 mm, Sialkot 47 mm, Murree, Faisalabad 46 mm each, Gujrat 35 mm, Jhelum 31 mm, Mangla 24 mm, Okara 23 mm, Bahawalnagar and D.G Khan 20 mm each, Multan 12 mm, Chakwal and Kamra 9 mm each, Lahore (PBO 7 mm, Airport 5 mm, Kot Addu 7 mm, Jhang, T. T. Singh 4 mm each.
In Kahmir: Muzaffarabad 61 mm, Garidupatta 33 mm, Rawalakot 15 mm, Kotli 12 mm. In Khyber Pakhtunkhwa: Peshawar 44 mm, Malamjabba 33 mm, Chrat 32 mm, D.I khan 21 mm, Kakul 17 mm, Balakot and Kalam 7 mm, each, Saidu Sharif 4 mm. In Balochistan: Barkhan 9 mm, Zhob 6 mm, Khuzdar 3 mm. Maximum temperature was recorded in Dalbandin as 45 degrees Celsius, Dadu and Nokkundi 43 each, Shaheed Benazirabad and Sibbi 42 each in the last 24 hours.
