The leadership of Businessmen Group (BMG) & office-bearers of the Karachi Chamber of Commerce and Industry (KCCI), while expressing deep concerns over the ongoing political uncertainty and the likelihood of early elections, urged that elections should only take place in the country after fully updated census and demarcation made along with complete implementation of biometric voting system otherwise the country will continue to face problems and crises over crises.
In a statement issued, Chairman BMG & Former President KCCI Siraj Kassam Teli, Vice Chairmen BMG Tahir Khaliq, Zubair Motiwala, Haroon Farooki and Anjum Nisar, President KCCI Shamim Ahmed Firpo, Senior Vice President Asif Nisar and Vice President KCCI Muhammad Younus Soomro stressed that the biometric system for voting has to be introduced and effectively implemented at any cost all over the country for next general elections which is the only way to make the entire process completely transparent, besides efficiently deal with rigging.
"The authorities must ensure that next elections are held under the new system which should have updated census and demarcation made. The existing system carries obsolete details about voters and demarcations therefore, elections under this system would only create problems", they said, adding that under the existing system, the same old faces will once again take control of the country's affairs and no change will be witnessed by the nation which continues to suffer terribly because of crises over crises.-PR
