Body formed to name new Islamabad airport

Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif has constituted a special cabinet committee to decide the name for new Islamabad international airport. The decision came during a high-level meeting of the ruling PML-N here on Thursday. The committee comprises Minister for Ports and Shipping Mir Hasil Khan Bizenjo, Adviser on National History and Literary Heritage Irfan Siddiqui, Minister of State for Information Maryyam Aurangzeb and Special Assistant to the PM on Law Barrister Zafarullah.
The new airport, which has long been delayed, will become operational on August 14, 2017. The new airport, in the outskirts of Islamabad is in the final stages of completion and expected to be inaugurated in August. The first green-field airport would have the capacity to handle the largest A380 aircraft and would also be linked to the twin cities of Rawalpindi and Islamabad through a metro road link. The airport having 15 aircraft parking bays would be facilitating 4,500 passengers, simultaneously.
