As the river Chenab is in low to medium flood with a peak flow of 1,78,000 cusecs water at Marala, Khanki and Qadirabad in central Punjab, Chief Minister Shahbaz Sharif has directed members of the Cabinet Committee for Flood and all the relevant departments to remain fully alert and complete all necessary arrangements for rescue and relief for the people.
He said the provincial and federal agencies should work in a coordinated manner to deal with any emergency situation, the Health Department should ensure availability of sufficient quantity of all the necessary medicines including anti-venom vaccine in the flooding areas, he emphasized.
The CM further instructed the Irrigation Department and concerned district administrations to complete the repair and maintenance work of embankments and spurs of the rivers and send a completion report. He would personally supervise the steps taken with regard to monsoon and possible floods. He said the cabinet committee should initiate indiscriminate action against the elements involved in illegal breaches.
