The Lahore High Court on Friday issued a notice to the attorney general for Pakistan for October 14 in response to a petition that urged the apex court to issue directives for placing on the Exit Control List (ECL) the names of all those mentioned in the Panama Papers. The petitioner, Farooq Amjad Bismil, pleaded that the alleged involvement of Pakistani citizens including politicians and businessmen in establishing offshore companies with laundered money has badly tarnished the image of the country in the whole world.
He stated though cases were pending before different courts against the persons named in the Panamagate, there was a possibility that the people facing charges of money laundering would flee the country. The petitioner through his counsel prayed the court to direct the concerned authorities to place the names of all the personalities involved in the Panamagate on the ECL.
