PTI approaches LHC regarding Shahbaz's disqualification

18 Jul, 2017

Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) Chairman Imran Khan has approached the Lahore High Court seeking disqualification of Chief Minister Punjab Shahbaz Sharif for violating his oath and protecting his personal interests as chief minister. The Lahore High Court would hear the petition today. The PTI Chief through Babar Awan advocate alleged that Shahbaz remained involved in his private business despite holding a public office and thus "violated his oath" as Chief Minister Punjab.
The application added that the Joint Investigation Team (JIT) probing the Sharif family's businesses abroad said in its report that the Sharif's assets do not match their declared income. The applicant claimed that Shahbaz Sharif had given Nawaz Sharif gifts worth Rs 6 billion, however no money trail of the hefty sum was provided.
It also accused the Chief Minister of misusing his authority to protect his sugar mills, alleging the mill was established "without the approval of the Environment Impact Assessment" and is therefore illegal.
