The devastating floods caused by monsoon rains killed at least 81 people and injured 117 others, while 103 houses were demolished across the country. According to official data issued by National Disaster Management Authority (NDMA) here on Monday, the flooding has killed 30 people in Punjab, 12 in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa (KP), six in Sindh, 23 in Balochistan, one in Azad Jammu and Kashmir, six in Federally Administered Tribal Areas (FATA) and three in Islamabad.
According to data, the floods have injured 117 people of which; 77 were in Punjab, 14 in KP, 17 in Sindh, one in Azad Kashmir and eight in the FATA. Among the demolished houses; 12 were in Punjab, 29 in KP, five in Sindh, 20 in Balochistan, 29 in Azad Kashmir, two in FATA, five in Gilgit Baltistan and one in Islamabad. Provincial disaster management authorities of Punjab, Sindh and Balochistan are considering possibility of moderate flooding in the nullahs of Balochistan and hill torrents of DG Khan Division within three days, adding that vulnerable communities be sensitised for requisite precautionary measures.
There is a possibility of landslides in the areas of AJK, KPK and Gilgit-Baltistan and the vulnerable population be sensitised to remain alert to take necessary preventive measures in this regard. The tourists are also advised to be cautioned to avoid travelling to areas vulnerable to landslides and glacial lake outburst flood (GLOF) etc. The vulnerable communities along the Indus, Jhelum, Ravi and Sutlej Rivers and their tributaries/nullahs should be sensitised for requisite measures. The authorities have provided tents to the floods affectees in KPK and Balochistan. Moreover, relief items including 100 food bags, 600 wheat bags, 200 rice bags (each containing 25 kg), 570 blankets, 250 plastic mats, 450 kitchen sets, 1,400 mosquito nets, 150 water tanks, 1,300 jerry cans, 50 lifesaving jackets and 150 gas cylinders have been distributed in the aforementioned provinces.
According to the latest weather forecast report of Pakistan Metrological Department (PMD), scattered thunderstorm/rain with isolated heavy falls is expected in the Malakand, Hazara, Peshawar, Kohat, Rawalpindi, Gujranwala, Lahore, Sargodha & DG Khan Divisions along with upper catchments of all the major rivers. Isolated thunderstorm/rain is also expected in Sindh and Eastern Balochistan.
