Prime Minister's rhetoric and his political career

21 Jul, 2017

Prime minister Nawaz Sharif is said to have remarked that he would not step down as all those who have been rejected by the nation are asking him to tender his resignation. Addressing the Sialkot Chamber of Commerce and Industry the other day, the premier has reportedly claimed that the opposition parties are preparing to stage a third sit-in. That the country is bracing for a fresh round of deepening political turmoil is a fact. That the PML-N chief prime minister is part of the problem and no solution to the problem is also a fact. There are not many buyers of his rhetoric. The Joint Investigation Team constituted by Supreme Court with a view to giving him one more chance to exonerate himself threatens not only his premiership but also his political career. The PM has been left with no choice. The opposition-bashing by him would be of no help for things have gone too far insofar as his political and legal prospects are concerned. The game is over, indeed, as his resignation is now a national demand.
