The National Assembly Standing Committee on Rules of Procedure and Privileges unanimously passed a resolution to give the name of new Islamabad airport as 'Quaid-e-Azam International Airport.' The committee met with Muhammad Junaid Anwar Chaudhry in the chair at Parliament House on Thursday. The committee discussed various privilege motions moved by members of the National Assembly (MNAs).
Chaudhry Mahmood Bashir Virk of Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz (PML-N) said while moving the resolution that Quaid-e-Azam Muhammad Ali Jinnah is Father of the Nation and he united the nation. "I suggest that the name of new Islamabad international airport should be given as Quaid-e-Azam International Airport for his memory", he said. He said that for this purpose, he moved the resolution. All the members supported the proposal of Bashir Virk.
Afterward, the committee passed the resolution unanimously that the name of new Islamabad airport should be Quaid-e-Azam International Airport. While discussing the question of privilege raised by MNA Azhar Qayyum Nahran against Babar Wahla, Assistant Director Land, Nowashera Virkan, district Gujranwala, for not attending his telephone calls. The committee disposed of the question of privilege of Azhar Qayyum Nahran against Babar Wahla with the direction to DG Land Record, Lahore, to resolve the issue of the MNA within one week; otherwise the committee would refer this issue to the National Assembly Speaker.
The committee disposed of the amendment moved by MNA Naeema Kishwar Khan in Rule 48 of the Rules of Procedure and Conduct of Business in the National Assembly, 2007 with the recommendation that there is no need to change this rule at this stage. The committed discussed question of privilege moved by MNA Mir Aijaz Hussain Jakhrani regarding disrespecting/abuse the authority of the chair and sanctity of the sub-committee of the Standing Committee on the Ports and Shipping by MNA Muhammad Salman Khan Baloch. Committee Chairman Anwar Chaudhry said that Baloch did not attend second meeting and the committee would take decision if he does not attend the third meeting.
The committee disposed of the question of privilege of MNA Dr Nisar Ahmed Jatt against Akhtar Randhawa, CEO HESCO, with the recommendations that the Ministry of Water and Power should not re-hire the said officer in his ministry in future. The committee disposed of the question of privilege of MNA Ghulam Sarwar Khan regarding non-provision of loans to the member by financial institutions and private banks with the recommendation that the Ministry of Finance should take some steps and make some amendments in rules regarding the definition of politically exposed persons.
The committee pended the amendment moved by MNA Dr Azra Fazal Pechoho in Rules 122 and 244. On the question of privilege raised by MNA Chaudhry Bilal Ahmed Virk against PIA, a sub-committee under the convenorship of MNA Muhammad Arshad Khan Leghari and Abdul Majid Khan Khanankhail, as member, was constituted. The sub-committee would go to Lahore to investigate the matter.
The committee confirmed the minutes of its previous meeting held on 22nd June, 2017 and re-confirmed the minutes of its meeting held on 13th April, 2017. The meeting was attended by MNAs Chaudhary Mahmood Bashir Virk, Rana Umer Nazir Khan, Najaf Abbas Siyal, Muhammad Arshad Khan Leghari, Azhar Qayyum Nahra, Abdul Majeed Khan Khananakhail, Sheikh Muhammad Akram, Mumtaz Ahmed Tarar, Maiza Hameed, Shagufta Jumani, Ghulam Sarwar Khan, SA Iqbal Qadri and Asiya Nasir. The meeting was also attended by Mir Aaijaz Hussain Jakhrani and Dr Nisar Ahmed, MNAs/movers.
