Karachi Mayor Waseem Akhtar on Thursday formally inaugurated the oil tankers parking terminal in Zulfiqarabad. Inaugurating the terminal at the out skirts of the city here on Thursday, he said, Zulfiqarabad oil tankers parking terminal would be made an ideal terminal so that it should be an example for other provinces and it is one of the biggest achievements in the development works for Karachi.
He thanked the Supreme Court of Pakistan for issuing the orders regarding shifting of tankers from different city areas to the terminal and the Sindh Chief Minister Sindh who extended monetary cooperation by approving the summary sent to him and also thanked the PSO, law enforcement agencies, home secretary Qazi Shahid Pervaiz and concerned KMC officers whose support and help made this possible to complete this oil tankers parking terminal.
Karachi Mayor expressed hope that the problems of the city would be resolved jointly and this oil parking terminal that was built at 200 acres of land would be extended to 400 acres. He said PSO has also assured that they would establish a patrol pump, here.
"With the completion of these oil tankers parking terminals there will be smooth flow of traffic. This is a long-awaited demand of the people which has been completed by KMC despite limited resources and fund," he said, adding that his team has proved that all the works can be done with day and night efforts.
He said they made this oil tankers terminal functional and now it was the responsibility of oil tankers' owners to let it run in a proper manner. He said despite lot of hurdles created by different departments and some legal complications they were able to complete this oil tankers terminal.
He said this oil tanker parking terminal has a capacity of parking 3200 oil tankers with all required facilities including mosque, rest area, canteen, bathrooms and service and maintenance shops of tankers and all facilities for the drivers have been provided while there would be an infrastructure for 10,000 will be available.
Deputy Mayor Arshad Vohra, PSO Managing Director Imran ul Haq Shaikh and others also addressed the ceremony. PSO M.D said that the oil tankers terminal should be named after Waseem Akhtar because this was the result of his efforts. Addl Home Secretary Dr Badaruddin, M.C. of the KMC Asghar Abbas, Parliamentary leader in KMC Council Aslam Afridi, KMC officers, representatives of oil tankers association and shopkeepers and other persons were also present on the this occasion.
