Shabir Ahmed, Patron in Chief, Pakistan Bedwear Exporters Association has urged for accountability for all segments of the society to bring the country on right track. While commenting on the Panama Case verdict, he said the judgment had confirmed that there was a rule of law in Pakistan and the country could not be governed as a family business. He said previously, there was no rule of law and the government was functioning for them not for the public or business community. He held the government responsible for decline in exports and said the government didn't focus the economy and nobody was addressing the issues of the business community.
"Despite announcement of Rs 180 billion textile package, billions of rupees refunds of exporters are blocked due to unknown reason," he added. Shabir said even IMF was projecting a lower growth rate. "Pak Rupee is likely to further devalue against the dollar due to unfair policies," he added. "We hope the next Prime Minister will not follow the previous polices and will provide all possible support to the industry to enhance the exports," he hoped. He said the most important thing was the accountability and that judgment had given a right direction. Shabir said it was also shocking news that Minister for Commerce Khurram Dastgir was not an income tax payer and even not filing his return.
