The Karachi Port handled 279,296 tonnes of cargo comprising 248,967 tonnes of import cargo and 30,329 tonnes of export cargo including 4,035 loaded and empty containers during the last 48 hours ending at 0700 hours on Monday. The total import cargo of 248,967 tonnes comprised of 52,391 tonnes of containerised cargo; 15,536 tonnes of general cargo; 86,159 tonnes of bulk cargo: 57,871 tonnes of coal; 6,789 tonnes of soyabean meal; 5,665 tonnes of fertilizer; 2,722 tonnes of palm kernel expeller; 13,112 tonnes of iron & steel scrap and 94,881 tonnes of oil/liquid cargo.
The total export cargo of 30,329 tonnes comprised of 27,563 tonnes of containerised cargo; 578 tonnes of general cargo and 1,188 tonnes of oil/liquid cargo. As many as 4,035 containers comprising of 2,246 containers import and 1,789 containers export were handled during the last 24 hours on Monday.
The breakup of imported containers shows 918 of 20's and 506 of 40's loaded while 302 of 20's and 07 of 40's empty containers, whereas that of exported containers shows 300 of 20's and 174 of 40's loaded containers while 455 of 20's and 343 of 40's empty containers were handled during the business hours. There were fifteen ships namely CMA CGM Puget, MOL Explorer, Sabya, Kota Layar, Wan Hai-509, OOCL America, MT Lahore, Bahra, Christinab, Oriental Protea, Mariwit, Izumo, New Legend Sapphire, Peace Angel and Chang Hang Cang Hai carrying containers, oil tankers, coal and general cargo respectively sailed out to sea during the reported period.
There were thirteen vessels viz. UAFL Zanzibar, CMA CGM Puget, Hyundai Faith, X-Press Kailash, Cosco Durban, MT Lahore, DL Aster, Sea Ambition, IVS Pinehurst, Bright World, Amber Alena, Izumo and New Legend Sapphire carrying containers, oil tankers, coal, chemical and general cargo respectively currently at the berths. There were six ships namely Hyundai Faith, X-Press Kailash, DL Aster, Sea Ambition, Bright World and KSL Fuyang carrying containers, oil tankers, chemical and general cargo respectively sailed out to sea on Monday.
There were ten vessels viz. Houston Express, Clemens Schulte, YM Cypress, MT Shalamar, Valor, Michalakis, Clovis Comet, Miski, Da Dan Xia and Le Min carrying containers, oil tanker, chemical, DAP, vehicle, railway bogies, defence store and general cargo respectively due to arrive on Monday while three vessels viz. Prosper, APL Coral and Serendipity carrying containers and coal respectively are due to arrive on Tuesday.
