Chief Minister Syed Murad Ali Shah said on Wednesday that repair and maintenance work on embankments (bunds), particularly the more vulnerable points, is going in full swing. Presiding over a meeting at the Chief Minister's House, he said that he had held a number of meetings before the start of the flood season to discuss arrangements for the strengthening of vulnerable points.
The meeting was told that pre-abkalyani measures were taken from June 1, under which maintenance work was in progress on the embankments to make them accessible for vehicles. Katcha landhis have also been constructed at every half mile from each embankment where abkalyani material such as hurricane lamps, torches, empty gunny bags, bamboos have deployed at vulnerable points. The chief minister directed the chief engineers to keep monitoring the stone pitching work being carried out at vulnerable points.
