Trump must not take N Korea lightly

16 Aug, 2017

Chinese President Xi Jinping is said to have urged US President Donald Trump to avoid rhetoric that could inflame tensions with North Korea as an escalating war of words has raised global alarm. According to media reports, Xi has made the plea in a phone call hours after Trump ramped up his warnings to Pyongyang, saying the Stalinist regime would "truly regret" taking hostile action against the United States. Xi seems to have done a big favour to Trump by fully explaining to him the dangers the latter's approach to North Korea is creating for the world in general and the US in particular.
Since the incumbent US President has little or no sense of history, the situation in the Korean Peninsula needs global attention without any further loss of time. He must not lose sight of the fact that Stalin while displaying profound procrastination over Mao's request to forge a defence treaty between the Soviet Union and China had implied that North Korea under Kim Il-sung could attack an impoverished China. Trump, therefore, must not take North Korea lightly.
