Appeal filed against Kulsoom's nomination

19 Aug, 2017

Pakistan Awami Tehreek (PAT) candidate in NA-120 Ishtiaq Ahmed Chaudhry has challenged the acceptance of nomination papers of Ms Kulsoom Nawaz. The tribunal comprising Justice Mamoon Rashid Sheikh and Justice Shahid Waheed of the Lahore High Court will resume hearing on appeals against rejection/acceptance of the nomination papers for NA-120 from August 21.
In his appeal, Ishtiaq Ahmad Chaudhry advocate contended that Kulsoom Nawaz concealed her assets and income in the nomination papers. He stated that the respondent candidate showed her a dependent of her husband Nawaz Sharif when she herself is a share holder of many companies. Chaudhry further stated that Ms Kulsoom also failed to disclose agreement and salary for a UAE Iqama (work permit) attached with her nomination papers. He pleaded that after the Panama Papers verdict by the Supreme Court it was necessary for Kulsoom Nawaz to disclose her salary as asset.
He alleged that the PML-N's candidate is also a defaulter of agriculture income tax and concealed details of her Murree residence. He argued that Kulsoom Nawaz cannot contest election on the ticket of PML-N claiming that registration of party stands cancelled since disqualification of its head Nawaz Sharif. The appellant prayed the tribunal to set aside the decision of the returning officer and reject nomination of Kulsoom Nawaz. The RO had accepted the nomination papers of Kulsoom Nawaz the other day after dismissing all objections filed against her candidature.
